"What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches." -Karl Menninger
I hope that all of my teachers are like that. Accepting the fact that they do not know everything. Unfortunately, a lot of them have attitude problems. They must have forgotten that they are at school to teach. To help students discover new things and prepare them in the next phase of their life.
I have a professor that keeps on telling our class that my course (BS Computer Engineering) sucks and that we'll land a call center job anyway. He always say "Magshift na lang kayo sa ECE. Walang kachallenge-challenge yang course nyo. Tutal callcenter naman bagsak nyo nyan eh. Magiging close pa tayo pag nagshift kayo". WTF?! Talk about encouragement to the highest level.
People like him is one of the primary reason why I want to be a teacher today. If he's so good then what the hell is he doing in a school and practicing teaching when he's really not there to teach? He shouldn't be there. I wanted to become a network or system administrator of an IT company before. That was my dream. It's a different story now. I'm determined to be a teacher. Students need me.
Teaching is more challenging than studying. In studying, you are only trying to understand one person. In teaching, you must do your best to be understand by not just one or three students, but all of them.
