Captain's Log Stardate -318884.9

"NAMP*TA", that's the first thing I said earlier when I opened my site GameOPS. It's f&D^S( empty!

I was about to send my webhost a flaming email when I recieved this message:

Hosting PHilippines System Message:

11/18/2005 10:42 AM
- Server 5 Downtime

At approximately 07.05 PM Phil Time, S5 became inaccessable. Engineers at the datacenter are currently working on diagnosing the problem. At this time, we do not know the cause of the outage or an ETA for the issue to be resolved.

Pls follow the thread below for updates.

I was already worried since I haven't made a single backup of the databases and configuration of my site. Then I recieved another email this morning that really irritated me.

Server 5 Clients

Below is the explanation I received from them. Again we feel terrible that this has happened, Im crossing my fingers that the dell engineers are able to repair it and hoping they could recover data on the server.as they will take a look at it this coming monday. Well have to wait and see if they are able to fix it and recover the data.

Our cpanel backups were recovered however they are all corrupted from the disk failure as the tech engineer explains below, Having been in this business close to 4yrs, this is definitely rare to have this severe a hardware failure. Its just unfortunate this happened to us here.

I know this is not gonna make any one feel better or bring back files and dbs that were lost, we will however give everyone on this server 6 free months additional hosting, so when your next bill comes its either gonna be waived if you have a semi-annual plan or quarterly plan (2 invoices) and only have to pay semi-annually for all accounts that are on the annual payment. We will also be upgrading all your accounts to the next higher plan. We will upgrade the space and bw of your accounts individually, for example all accounts that are on the starter plan will remain on starter plan but the space and bandwidth limits will be equal to the the standard plan account. We know this does not fix things but this is the best we can do.

Again we apologize for all the trouble we have caused.

Rez, until Dell engineers repair it on Monday I cannot tell you any more than all drives failed and the data (as you have seen) is basically unrecoverable. I am not sure we'll know even monday what failed and why.

Your cpanel backups worked fine. They are all corrupted from the disk failure thats all.

We truly apologize for this hardware failure, but we had no control over it. Hardware fails unfortunately - it is rare that you get catestrophic failure of a device designed to be redundant, but it happens.

PYSTDSTDSOD S%*&%@# IGSOTD(^W !!! I haven't made a single backup of our database since I was still working on some site configurations! Now I have to reinstall everything else and reconfigure every stfuy98 toyA GxoRD^&$R(!!OIYDT*^$D!!!!

Since the backups were unrecoverable, they gave all affected subscribers a free 6 months and doubled all our webspace and bandwidth. Anyone can recommend a more reliable host?
