Questionable Globe GPRS Charging

Last Tuesday while waiting for Lalaine inside the Holy Cross Church, I decided to go online on my Yahoo Messenger account via my cellphone using Globe Telecom's GPRS. I've disabled all images on the browser so my access charge would be minimize. Since Globe Telecoms claims that their GPRS charge is only P0.15/kb, checking some of my instant messages wouldn't hurt my remaining P60 prepaid credits. But I was wrong.

I've checked my prepaid credits before using my GPRS. You can clearly see here that I have P62.33 credits left in my account. I've disabled images and started using my Yahoo Messenger. I've exchange about 4 messages with Kuya Pau and after that, I immediately logged out.

When I checked my credits, it was only P7.52!!! WTF?! I couldn't believe what I just saw so I checked my balance again...

It's P22.35 this time. I've checked and checked for my prepaid credits and it never changed. It stood at P22.35. If you'll do the math, from P62.33, my credits fall to P22.35. That's P39.98 or equivalent to 266.53Kb!!! I've only sent brief messages to my cousin and he only replied with.. Yes and No. Heck, even a windows text file that has 1000 characters wouldnt even break the 5Kb size. But 266Kb for Yahoo Messenger? Tsss...
They're trying to introduce a new service called 3G, in which you could browse at broadband speeds on your 3G enabled mobile phone. I'm only using their GPRS technology... a technology that should have been perfected and yet, the way they charge customers is still questionable. What more if 3G becomes mainstream? A P10,000 bill of 3G access wouldnt be far from reality.

That is expensive. I don't believe this will ever become a hit. Maybe for some geeks with a lot of money to burn...
whaaaaa! pano nako makakalaro ng hinta wars sa cel ko! &*^&*%&^%!!!
true it is questionable.. the first text message you received was before the "running balance" and you were given a refund since you came from the Globe WAP Site.
True 250+kb for just 4 messages in Y!M but I am not surprised. You being a techy person should understand that there are IDLE data transfers... unwanted they maybe, but those will always be there. Waiting for a reply, leaving the GPRS on idle... those kinds of sh*t. That's one of the reason I am not using GPRS. I'm waiting for the 3G network to go up and get an unlimited account.
@smokers - yun ang prblema.. I'm using a wap based YM service that doesnt have any IDLE time transfers. 250KB doesnt surprise you??? 250KB IS TOO MUCH. TOOO MUCH FOR A WAP-BASED SRVICE.
buti pa Smart...
