Globe Telecoms finally launched their 3G services today after beta-testing it to corporate subscribers. Smart launched theirs last Feb 14 FREE for testing. Smart and Globe basically have the SAME services being offered to subscribers but Globe is starting their 3G and 3.5G(HSDPA) services with current GSM rates. Smart will start charging for their data access starting May 1, 2006 while their video calls will remain free until May 31, 2006. Globe's rates are preposterous. P0.15/kb??? Deja vu? A broadband access that charges per kb? What's the use of that Highspeed if your credits would disappear as fast as the website renders on your screen? Globe should follow Smart's rate with P10/30mins of browing, whether browsing on GPRS or 3G. Globe should also consider lowering their MMS rates like Smart Telecoms P1/MMS.
