Would you browse the internet wirelessly for P0.15/kb on Globe Telecoms? Or would you rather browse all you can for only P10/ 30mins on Smart? Globe just launched their 3G services today and Smart last Feb 14. During Smart's trial period, access to their 3G services were free. But Globe started their 3G with REGULAR GSM rates for their video call and internet access. Smart will start charging for their 3G services starting May 1 2006.
If we'll compare the rates, Smart wins with the "masa" people. P10/30minutes of browse-all-you-can (3G and GRPS) compared to Globe's inaccurate P0.15/kilobyte scheme. Video Calls are also free on Smart until May 31 2006. Smart also lowered their MMS rates to P1, for Smart-Smart MMS, and P2 to other networks.
Taken from Globe's 3G Website:
Why are you charging Globe subscribers for 3G transactions when Smart is not?
The service is highly affordable as you will be able to experience 3G and/or HSDPA incl video calls, video streaming, and hi-speed internet browsing at just regular 2G prices. In Globe, we always make it a point that subscribers get the best experience when using our service. That means video calls are connected with less likelihood of being dropped, video streaming is clear and uninterrupted, and browsing and downloading is fast and reliable. By offering 3G and HSDPA / 3.5G services at 2G/ GSM prices, we minimize the likelihood of abuse from other subscribers and guarantee a better 3G / HSDPA / 3.5G experience for all our subscribers within the 3G network. YE. CHARGE US... CHARGE US WITH SKYROCKET RATES. PER KILOBYTE CHARGING. STUPID. Imagine spending P153.6 on a 1MB file download?!!
(1MB = 1024KB)... P0.15 * 1024 kilobytes = P153.60!!! Who's stupid enough to spend that amount?!
