SMS spams have now evolved. Gone are the days when the mobile spam you'll recieve came from your operators' special access numbers (2366, 2802, etc.). They now come in the form of normal text messages using normal numbers. Most of them seems to originate from an uber excited subscriber informing you of the "good" news.
Uy, lam mo b pwd kang manalo ng 5K araw2x! Makakakuha k rin ng mga downloads fr superman, hulk etc. Send mo lang marvel s 291. Mura lang cya,2.50.
Sender: 09104212398
My friend Glen wasn't only the victim of this SMS Spam. My co-forumers at BNC also recieved these spams. Some variants:
Uy! natry mo ba ang voicemail text? ang galing! dial *899 and the cellphone number, mura pa, try mo! BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Huy, Piso nalang ang MMS! Mura grabe para kalang ngtxt pero mas astig to kasi pwed k magsama ng picture sa txt mu! Galeng noh?Lahat toh piso lang! AND STILL MOREE!!!
Huy, d ba smart ka? Nagtxt lng me ng E2 On sa 209, nakuha k Narda tpos may libreng 5 txt msgs pa! Astig ba? Try mo din, dali! Pls pass. All of these SMS were recieved by SMART Telecom users. Lalaine's mom, who's on SMART, also recieves these kind of trash from time to time. If Smart sends SMS spams like these, Globe sends MMS spams. YES. Globe evolved from SMS to MMS!
What separates Globe from SMART is the way they send these ads. Globe sends their ads using special 3-4 digit numbers and places "MYGLOBE ADVISORY" at the start of their messages. SMART does it dirty. Camouflaging as "excited subcribers" and asking the recipients to pass the message.
So what's next for our mobile spams? Now that 3G and faster data speeds are being deployed, video MMS spams anyone?
