Goodbye Globe HandyPhone

Goodbye Globe and hello Smart. Not because of the Unlimited Text Rate increase, I don't use it anyway. :P
I've been a loyal Globe Handyphone subscriber for years (roughly 9) and that loyalty will soon be broken if the guys at Globe Telecoms don't act ASAP. Globe pioneered SMS, MMS, GPRS, and now 3G with HSDPA in the Philippines. They've also introduced unique services like the Call-Back Alert, Share-A-Load, Ask-A-Load, Text-Back Mo Libre Ko, Globe XTM, G-Web Call, G-Pass, G-Cash, and myGlobe IMEVRYWHR. But they seem to follow one undesirable trait of Pinoys, Ningas Kugon
When my mom went home last month, she asked me to check all her land titles. When she went back to Japan, the only means of "cheap" communication we had was via her mobile email. Guess what, my Globe Handyphone was useless (and still is as of today).
Globe XTM stopped working a couple of months ago that left me email-less. Their Mobile Mail won't work either. The Globe 2300 TEXTMAIL has been dead for years. Their MMS system is so useless that it cannot even send an email to an @docomo.ne.jp address and receive incoming emails like Smart's MMS.
Globe Telecom's GPRS Internet Access Point is exclusive for Postpaid subscribers, leaving again, their "valued" prepaid subscribers crippled. So my attempts to use my POP3 email from Gmail or myDestiny had been futile, so is the Yahoo! Go and Gmail Mobile App since all of them requires the myGlobe INET access point exclusive to Globe postpaid subscribers. Hmp!
The only choice left was to open the mobile version of Gmail using the Globe WAP GPRS Access Point. Guess what, GLOBE's GPRS Access Point IS INCAPABLE OF HANDLING SECURED CONNECTIONS REQUIRED BY GMAIL! I don't know what happened but I was using this mobile version before. Tsk.
Then I remembered that Chikka was offering Txt2Mail. Again. It didn't work.
GPRS and Email are not their only problem. Share-A-Load won't let me share my prepaid credits to other 0917 Globe subscribers. Call-Back Alert has been dead for almost a year. Call and Text Collect is unreliable. Text Bak Mo Libre Ko is also not working.

As much I would like to switch before, I can't. Our family is a Globe Family. From my youngest cousin to my lolos and lolas, all of them are using Globe. But with the recent actions (or lack of) from Globe, I may soon bid them goodbye. Smart is offering their SIM cards for P150 per 3pcs bundle and switching isn't that difficult with their P0.35/SMS special rate. I rather bear Smart's text spams than have a useless GPRS and no mobile email from Globe.

BTW, SUN Cellular is also a nice alternative for those who have a tight budget and only need basic call and text. For Php 25, you can enjoy unlimited calls and text to any SUN subscriber for 24 hours.
I'm just surprised with the reaction of Globe subscribers when Globe increased their Unlimited SMS rates, while these same subscribers remained quiet the whole time when Globe secretly discontinued their Globe XTM service, Emails, etc. I also haven't heard any complaints from them regarding the blocking of myGlobe INET APN to prepaid subscribers. :~( WAKEUP! THERE ARE OTHER THINGS BESIDES UNLIMITED SMS! DAMMIT.
We might be the SMS capital of the world, but it all ends there. Subscribers should know that there are other better services beyond SMS, and that includes mobile email.

^ LOL.. I'm a Globe subscriber since mount tralala appeared on the face of the earth and I can assure you 101% that you CANNOT use your prepaid account to access POP3 mails, Google Mobile Mail App, IM+, Agile Messenger, etc...
