Yep, you read it. Jeong Da-Bin, the star or Korean Series Attic Cat and movie Cool Guy, has been found dead last weekend in her boyfriend's apartment.
Police autopsy confirms suicide death of actress SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- An autopsy of a popular actress found dead last weekend confirmed that she had committed suicide, dismissing murder suspicions, police said Monday.
Jeong Hye-sun, 27, well-known as Jeong Da-bin, was found hanged at her boyfriend's house on Saturday, police said, adding Jeong's boyfriend, only identified by his last name Lee, discovered the body and alerted the authorities.
Police had initially said that she committed suicide, citing no signs of physical assualt.
Jeong's family, however, requested an autopsy, raising questions surrounding her death and insisting she had no reason to kill herself.
Jeong, who also became a South Korean pop culture star in Taiwan in 2005, acted in several popular Korean television dramas and movies.
Jeong is the latest in a string of suicides by well-known pop stars. Female singer 'Yuni' committed suicide on Jan. 21, while movie actress Lee Eun-joo killed herself in February 2005.
Goodbye Globe and hello Smart. Not because of the Unlimited Text Rate increase, I don't use it anyway. :P
I've been a loyal Globe Handyphone subscriber for years (roughly 9) and that loyalty will soon be broken if the guys at Globe Telecoms don't act ASAP. Globe pioneered SMS, MMS, GPRS, and now 3G with HSDPA in the Philippines. They've also introduced unique services like the Call-Back Alert, Share-A-Load, Ask-A-Load, Text-Back Mo Libre Ko, Globe XTM, G-Web Call, G-Pass, G-Cash, and myGlobe IMEVRYWHR. But they seem to follow one undesirable trait of Pinoys, Ningas Kugon When my mom went home last month, she asked me to check all her land titles. When she went back to Japan, the only means of "cheap" communication we had was via her mobile email. Guess what, my Globe Handyphone was useless (and still is as of today).
Globe XTM stopped working a couple of months ago that left me email-less. Their Mobile Mail won't work either. The Globe 2300 TEXTMAIL has been dead for years. Their MMS system is so useless that it cannot even send an email to an @docomo.ne.jp address and receive incoming emails like Smart's MMS.
Globe Telecom's GPRS Internet Access Point is exclusive for Postpaid subscribers, leaving again, their "valued" prepaid subscribers crippled. So my attempts to use my POP3 email from Gmail or myDestiny had been futile, so is the Yahoo! Go and Gmail Mobile App since all of them requires the myGlobe INET access point exclusive to Globe postpaid subscribers. Hmp!
The only choice left was to open the mobile version of Gmail using the Globe WAP GPRS Access Point. Guess what, GLOBE's GPRS Access Point IS INCAPABLE OF HANDLING SECURED CONNECTIONS REQUIRED BY GMAIL! I don't know what happened but I was using this mobile version before. Tsk.
Then I remembered that Chikka was offering Txt2Mail. Again. It didn't work.
As much I would like to switch before, I can't. Our family is a Globe Family. From my youngest cousin to my lolos and lolas, all of them are using Globe. But with the recent actions (or lack of) from Globe, I may soon bid them goodbye. Smart is offering their SIM cards for P150 per 3pcs bundle and switching isn't that difficult with their P0.35/SMS special rate. I rather bear Smart's text spams than have a useless GPRS and no mobile email from Globe.
BTW, SUN Cellular is also a nice alternative for those who have a tight budget and only need basic call and text. For Php 25, you can enjoy unlimited calls and text to any SUN subscriber for 24 hours.
I'm just surprised with the reaction of Globe subscribers when Globe increased their Unlimited SMS rates, while these same subscribers remained quiet the whole time when Globe secretly discontinued their Globe XTM service, Emails, etc. I also haven't heard any complaints from them regarding the blocking of myGlobe INET APN to prepaid subscribers. :~( WAKEUP! THERE ARE OTHER THINGS BESIDES UNLIMITED SMS! DAMMIT.
We might be the SMS capital of the world, but it all ends there. Subscribers should know that there are other better services beyond SMS, and that includes mobile email.
Since Globe has been stubborn and greedy about their new and expensive unlimited SMS rates, why not maximize it? We've been selling Textcretary cards for several months now and I tell you, it will save you a lot. Especially if you're using SUN Cellular's Text Unlimited 150 for 30 days.
Textcretary allows you to send unlimited SMS to other networks while you're subscribed to your own network's unlimited SMS. To know more about the product, please click here.
Globe Telecom on Tuesday said it will not suspend its latest unlimited text service due to legal constraints, despite the National Telecommunications Commission order released Monday that it revert to its old Unlimitxt service.
"There are legal and other compelling reasons why we can't comply with the order. We will file a motion for reconsideration tomorrow (Wednesday)," said Globe senior vice president Rodolfo Salalima.
...
Salilima said it is "legally impossible" for Globe to terminate the subscriptions of the prepaid subscribers who have signed up for the 'Unlimited Texting.'
"Contracts binding on Globe have already been generated. In fact, payment has already been received by Globe. Even Congress can tell us to do away with the contracts. We can be held liable for punitive damages," Salalima said.
If they can activate the new rates without problems, then they could easily re-activate the old rates.
NTC ordered Globe Telecoms to suspend its new UnliTXT rates in response to the complaint filed by TXTPower. “This is good news and we hope the order becomes permanent,” said TXTPower spokesperson Anthony Ian Cruz. “This is a blow against those who abuse consumers.”
Cruz credited “consumer protests as expressed in our online petition, the reactions in internet forums and the complaint we immediately filed” as factors in “the price rollback, albeit only temporary, of the Globe price hike.”
“We hope the NTC makes sure Globe follows the order and rolls back to the previous rates immediately,” said Cruz. “We will prepare for a public hearing to demolish Globe’s arguments and show why keeping unlimited text messaging rates at the lowest possible levels is a legitimate pro-consumer and pro-business move.” (Story and Image from TXTPower.com)

Since the December 2006 Taiwan quake, browsing has been slow on international sites. And I mean slow! Bayantel DSL subscribers have already been enjoying broadband speeds weeks ago unlike Destiny, Globe and PLDT subscribers. Now after weeks of waiting, Destiny's international broadband speed is finally back!
Previously blocked sites are now accessible and browsing has returned to its normal broadband speeds. There's still a problem though. My cable modem's lease time is only 4 hours.
My connection disconnects for about 2-5 seconds every 4 hours. Kuya Noli said that it's an internal setting at Destiny's side and there nothing I could do about it on my end. *sigh*

This Globe SMS would definitely be one of Year 2007's biggest joke:
