The iPhone is just an overpriced mobile phone and an iPod built into one. No 3G, no MMS, no videos. The price is just too much compared to the available Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung mobile phones today. And most of them are way cheaper than the iPhone.
A friend once nagged me to buy his unlocked iPhone for P17,000. Though tempted of the eye candies of the iPhone, I resisted his offer. I'm a heavy texter and I need MMS and 3G access for my laptop. Sure the iPhone has built-in WiFi but I doubt that it can handle big PSD files for email. So I opted for a cheap but very useful Nokia N70. There were several iPhone clones from China that are currently available but none of them even came close to the real thing. Until this HiPhone / DigitalRise D800i HiPhone came along.
A seller from sulit.com.ph claims that the HiPhone is 99% identical to the original Apple iPhone and provided these features and images:
1. 3.5 inches big screen 2. Dual SIM slots network switch 3. Triband GSM 900/1800/1900MHz that supports USA GSM standard. 4. Web addresses entering; web browsing, WAP setting, web address management. 5. Unlocked to any major network carrier. 6. SMS, MMS, voicemail and cell broadcast 7. MP3, MP4, file playing, recording, phone call recording. 8. 2.0 mp camera, video capturing, photo viewing, playing 9. Hands free speaker phone. 3D sound. 10. Bluetooth supported. 11. TF card supported with free 512mb Micro SD. 12. Diversified screen switch 13. One-Key return 14. Automatic screen rotation 15. Comes with free Rubber protector for HiPhone. 16. With USB cable for data transfer and charging.
Pretty cool for a knock-off right? Multi-Touch, Dual SIM, MMS, and Video Recorder! Wait till you hear how much. The seller says that he's selling the units for Php8,000 (roughly US$200) per piece and he's willing to lower the price if I get 2 or more units. Cheap compared to the original Apple iPhone but not cheap enough for me to get one. A Nokia 6120 Classic currently retails for Php8,500 and that phone has definitely more features than the HiPhone. If he lowers his price to Php4,000, I might consider getting one for my self :~)
