UnionBank EON application headaches

ADVERTISEMENTS

Captain's Log Stardate -315449.94

Last March just before the Holy Week, I applied for a UnionBank EON card online. I got my sequence number and was instructed by the website to wait 5 days for a confirmation. A month passed and I haven't received any confirmation. I emailed their customer support and I received a reply after 3 days.

Dear Mr. Bengero,

Greetings from UnionBank!

We have received your email regarding your EON Visa application. To update you of the status, we would like to ask for some information so we can verify your account. Kindly provide us with the following details:

Account Name:
Birthdate:
Contact Number:
Date of Application:
Preferred Branch:

We hope to hear from you again so we can respond to your concern immediately

For your convenience, our Customer Service Correspondence Unit operates on Mondays to Fridays, from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Emails sent after office hours, weekends as well as Public Holidays will be responded on the next working day. You may also contact us through our 24-hour Customer Service Hotline at 841-8600

Sincerely,

UnionBank Customer Service

I immediately replied with the information they have requested and I haven't heard a word from them since. That email was sent 2 months ago.

I decided to personally check my EON card at Muñoz Quezon City Branch last week. I waited for more than 30 minutes just to learn that my card has not been delivered to that branch. The teller gave me a form to fill up so she could re-apply my card. She asked me to return last Tuesday, June 10th 2008. Come Tuesday, my card is still smoke.

She asked me to call the next day to check if my card has been processed or what.

Wednesday, still no card.

Thursday... nada.

It's now Friday and my card is still nowhere in sight. I don't know if she's really re-applying my card or not. I don't want to re-apply online, it might cause more trouble and headaches if the head office receives multiple EON application from me and from her.

I've been scouring for alternatives and it seems that UnionBank's EON is the only acceptable debit card for PayPal Philippines. Or have I missed something? I've called Banco De Oro and inquired about their Cash Cards and as usual, they don't know what PayPal is.

I'll ask Bank of the Philippine Islands tomorrow if their Cash Card can be used at PayPal. In the mean time, I'll just have to wait for my EON card from UnionBank.

*Computer end log*

I hope you'll be having good luck with Unionbank...
Then, I was less fortunate. And this is my story:
I got my Unionbank EON card at their Iznart Branch in Iloilo when I worked there. When I came back to Manila in 2003, my card expired a year after and couldn't be used in ATM machines anymore. Since I couldn't possibly/physically renew the card in Iloilo, I went to Unionbank in Munoz (near to my work in West Ave) to ask for advice. I was told to fax a request to that Iloilo branch of which I did. The request is for my card to be forwarded to Munoz branch.
I didn't hear any reply nor there was card to arrive at Munoz branch. I sent an email but didn't get any reply. The renewal of my EON card never arrived. I was tired of making follow up until I totally forget it. I still have less than one thousand pesos balance in my account.
I like the technology Unionbank offered. But I think they still have to make it good with customer relationship...

I hope Unionbank will make it good to you despite of the obvious lapses they've shown to you...

Unionbank is one of the worst banks in the country in terms of customer service, to think that it's objective is one of the top 5 banks in the country.

anyway, don't use BPI's express cash its only valid in the philippines.

make sure that the card that ypu'll get has a CVC number, that's the 3 digit code on the signature strip at the back.

other banks/firms that offer visa/mastercard debit cards are:

-Smart Communications - Smart Money
-Security Bank - Cash Link Plus
-Chinatrust Bank - Visa Cash Card

@ciudadista - will cards from BDO/Smart Money work on PayPal?

Posted by OpenID ciudadista on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 11:16:00 PM GMT+8:
smart money cards are accepted at paypal. the only issue is with the 5299 series cards. these cards are with a new number series and is quite new in the smastercard system. paypal is having a problem recognizing 5299 series cards.

according to smart, they're still working on universal compatibility. however, the card can be used for most purchases wherein the card needs to be physically swiped.

BDO cards should work.

Hi guys,

In from Cebu , want to share to you my worst experienced about EON Card.

It takes 2 months or more for them to released your EON Card. Ive done my application online.

Ive got my EON Card last May,2008. A friend of mine from Australia send 63US$ last June 26 for a try. The Staff here in Unionbank Cebu doesnt know how this EON Card worked with Paypal.

Im totally helpless.I do some researched here online. And this is what ive done.

1. ) Deposit small amount like 200.00 to your EON Card. Charges of 91.50 will be deducted ( i dont give much attention what was this charges all about) Your EON card wont work if its 0 balance.

2. ) Enroll your EON Card to Unionbank Online Banking to have this card activated. They will send to your online account the 4 digit EXPUSE Pin.

3. ) Add your EON Card to your Paypal account. Please note wrong Bank Code will result to denied transaction and every denied transaction will charge you 250.00

Please see this List for Paypal Bank Code (www.pinoymoneytalk.com)

Unionbank here in Cebu gave me a wrong Bank code which resulted to 2denied transactions. From my beginning balance of 63US$ what was finally transfered to my EON Card was only 42.20US$

If your Bank give you 9 Digit Bank code please double check in the List. For the third time i use the Bank Code listed here and it works.

4. ) Once youve got the 4 Digit Code you can now make withdrawal from your Paypal account. NOTE again.... Dont try to withdraw your paypal money if you dont have this 4 digit Pin. You are allowed only 3x to key in your PIN. For the 4th try your card will be blocked.

May this info will help.

Mine's lingering on for two weeks now. No updates or anything. I applied in one of their branches. How I wish Netspend reload centers were available here in the Philippines. They're so much more convenient.

@ciudadista: Thanks for the info about the other prepaid cards. I didn't even know Smart offered those things.

Sad to hear your bad experience with UnionBank. I have a different experience with the bank. Last August I visited one of UnionBank's branches to apply for an EON account. The application only 5 minutes to complete then the staff told me to come back after two weeks. As instructed, I came back after two weeks and the card was waiting for me.

I have been using EON for many years and got no problem until na nag request akong palitan ang na expired kung card. Nang inilagay ko yung card sa paypal ko eto nataggap kong message

” This credit card has been denied by the bank that issued your credit card. For details on why your card was denied, please contact your credit card issuer’s customer service department. Or, you may want to try adding a different credit card. ”

When I use my ATM sa ATM machine for withdrawal it says this card is restricted

And when I apply it sa online banking nila it says Card is Unauthorized…nakakainis considering na nagsabi yung Unionbank employees na activated na yung account ko at nag deposit pa nga ako nga money para sa bagong Unionbank account ko ….
