William Shatner lashes out at George Takei
Friday, October 24, 2008 Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -315811.76
William Shatner is setting his phaser to stun against his old "Star Trek" co-star George Takei
In a video posted on Shatner's Web site Wednesday, he lashed out at Takei for not inviting him to his wedding last month. The 77-year-old Shatner said Takei, who played Enterprise helmsman Sulu, apparently harbors a grudge against him that kept him from being invited to Takei's nuptials.
"The whole thing makes me feel badly," Shatner said in the video. "Poor man. There is such a sickness there. It's so patently obvious that there is a psychosis there. I don't know what his original thing about me was. I have no idea."

Enfakid A+ Milk Newspaper Ad = FAIL
Captain's Log Stardate -315808.91
Enfakid A+'s latest Inquirer Ad is one of the biggest FAIL jobs of 2008. I have nothing against milk formulas because I myself was breastfed by my mom and fed different milk formulas when I was a child. I did get an eidetic memory from either the milk I consumed when I was a child or from the genes my parents have. But from Enfakid A+ latest ad, I'm starting to believe my eidetic memory came from my genes.
The Enfakid A+ ad from Inquirer shows a 9 + 5 = 14 mathematical equation. It's correct but when you open the flap, the epic fail begins.
Once you open the ad, the mathematical equation expands to 9 + 5 * 2 - (7 * 2) = 14. Apparently, the guys who made and approved this ad fail at basic mathematics in elementary. I'm sure most of you know the MDAS rule in solving these kind of math problems. Let's try to solve this equation the proper way shall we?
First solve the equation inside the parenthesis, in this case 7 * 2. We get 14.
Now the equation shortens to 9 + 5 * 2 - 14. Following the MDAS rule, multiply 5 to 2 in which the answer is 10. Now we have 9 + 10 - 14. Using the same MDAS rule, 9 + 10 = 19 then 19 - 14 = 5.
The answer should be 5. FIVE.
"Your child can learn, discover and imagine far richer with Enfakid A+. Now with enhanced DHA levels that help brain cells communicate well to support your kid’s rapid mental development. Nourish the brain. Pursue Excellence" What a way to advertise a milk formula that supposedly increase brain cell efficiency. Nice one.
UPDATE 10/24/2008 15:43:

Following an epic fail of advertisement, Mead Johnson Philippines has released another newspaper ad based on the first epic fail. This time, the equation was crossed out by a genius kid. People are not that gullible. Excellence can be tested in ways we least expect. The average 3-to-6-year-old may not know that this test should be solved using the PEMDAS rule. Help your child excel beyond the ordinary. Give him Enfakid A+. Now with enhanced DHA levels that help brain cells communicate well to support his rapid mental development.
Nourish the brain. Pursue excellence. EPIC SAVE FAIL!
--- In algebra and computer programming, when a number or expression is both preceded and followed by a binary operation, a rule is required for which operation should be applied first; this rule is known as an order of operations.
From the earliest use of mathematical notation, multiplication took precedence over addition, whichever side of a number it appeared on. Thus,
3 + 4 × 5 = 23. 3 + 20 = 23 23 = 23
When exponents were first introduced, in the 16th and 17th centuries, exponents took precedence over both addition and multiplication, and could be placed only as a superscript to the right of their base. Thus 3 + 52 = 28 and 3 × 52 = 75.
To change the order of operations, a vinculum (an overline or underline) was originally used. Today one uses parentheses (). Thus, if one wants to force addition to precede multiplication, one writes (3 + 4) × 5 = 35. (source)

The "New" Star Trek USS Enterprise 1701 Crew
Sunday, October 19, 2008 Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -315799.89
Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Simon Pegg as Lt. Montgomery Scott, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu and Zoe Saldana as Uhura.
I didn't get excited when the new Star Trek prequel was announced. First it was a prequel and we all know that Kirk's crew survived even through the The Next Generation era. Second, since some of the original actors are dead and this is a prequel, new and younger actors will be used. Third, it's being directed by JJ Abrams. Put them all together and you'll have a new Transformers-like movie. It (will) suck.Star Trek is a science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk. It is the eleventh Star Trek film and features the main characters of the original Star Trek series, who are portrayed by a new cast. It follows James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) enrolling at Starfleet Academy, his first meeting with Spock (Zachary Quinto), and their battles with evil Romulans from the future, who are interfering with history. The film is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2009 in North America and the United Kingdom. Sure the enemy is a Romulan from the future, but the Star Trek universe has this thing called the Pogo Paradox. We all know that none of the cast will die so where's the excitement? Example is the awesomest Star Trek movie I've watched, Star Trek First Contact: In 2373, a Pogo paradox resulted as a Borg sphere attempted to prevent the launch of humanity's first warp ship, the Phoenix by traveling back in time to the year 2063. The interference was halted by the actions of the USS Enterprise-E, and history was restored.
The old Spock can travel back in time... cool. But why not revive Kirk? Kirk has been revived countless times and don't forget the Genesis Project. They revived Spock with that right? SO WHY NOT INCLUDE KIRK?! William Shatner wanted to appear as the old Kirk, despite the death of the character in Star Trek Generations. He suggested the film canonize the novels where Kirk is resurrected, but Abrams argued, "You and I could come up with dozens of ways [to resurrect Kirk], but every way that we came up with felt like it was transparently fanboys trying to get Shatner in the movie." Nimoy disliked the character's death in Generations, but felt resurrecting Kirk would also be detrimental to this film. Shatner added he wanted to share Nimoy's major role, and did not want a cameo. Nichelle Nichols was offered a cameo as Uhura's ancestor. Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner are old. This is probably the last time we may see them wear their jumpsuits so why deny us that opportunity? Bryan Singer made a cameo in the last Star Trek Nemesis movie and boy I was excited. All along I thought that the directing job of the next Star Trek film will be given to him, but what did Paramount do? They gave the franchise to a guy who made me sick after watching Cloverfield.
The movie will suck. But as a true Star Trek junkie, I'll still watch it. Not because I think the movie may rock, but because Winona Ryder plays Spock's mom :~)

Sony Ericsson releases world’s first AM radio mobile phone
Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -315798.12
Well finally someone decided to include AM radio on mobile phones. Sony Ericsson's R306s may not have the features of the iPhone but it sill packs a 1.3MP camera and a built in MP3 player.
AM radios are widely popular in the Philippines especially when it comes to news.
My grandma always listen to DZMM, DZRH and DWWW everyday. On weekends, she tunes in to DZRH for the weekly mini concert of the Mabuhay Singers on radio. My father listens to TV Patrol on DZMM when driving. I myself has been an AM radio junkie since I was a kid. Thanks to Ernie Baron's Knowledge Power, Jaime Licauco's Inner Mind on Radio and Rene Mariano's Hiwaga Himala at mga Panaginip.
The Sony Ericsson R306 is a perfect gift for Glen's mom who loves to listen to AM radios :)

Great Offer from Globe Telecom for the Christmas Season
Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -315798.08
Globe Telecoms silently introduced their newest call promo dubbed as Tawag236. It allows any Globe Prepaid or Postpaid subscriber to make a call to other Globe and TM subscribers for only P20 per 20 minutes. It literally translates to P1 per minute calls. Simply replace the 0 at the start of the number you are calling with 236 (ex. 09171234567, dial 2369171234567) then press call and wait for the person you are calling to answer.
Calls will be automatically disconnected once the 20 minute limit has been reached. Just redial the number if you want to talk more.
Unfortunately, this new promo is charged on a 20 minute block. If your call gets cut-off in 12 minutes, you'll still be charged 20 pesos. Postpaid (G-plan and G-flex) subscribers will be charged the P20 Tawag236 rate on top of your monthly fee.
You also cannot use remaining call balance to other calls. Example, your first call only lasted 7 minutes, the remaining 13 minutes cannot be used to call other numbers. That 7 minute call will be charged 20 pesos. Not bad considering a normal 7 minute call already costs P45.50 on prepaid.
This is an early gift from Globe for the Christmas Season. Imagine, calling your loved ones in the province for the price of P1 per minute. Tawag na!

Happy 8th Birthday GameOPS.net
Saturday, October 18, 2008 Captain's Log Stardate -315797.27
I completely forgot about this but it's better late than never. GameOPS' current domain has just turned 8 last October 2 while GameOPS itself turned 10 last January 2008.
I actually got gameops.net as a free domain from NameZero for 1 year. If I remember it correctly, the renewal was US$50+ per year. After a year I transferred to RegisterFly and just last year to ENOM. Someone also offered me US$1200 for this domain 5 years ago. Obviously, I refused and that was probably one of the smartest things I've done in my life :P
 Anyway, Happy 8th Birthday GameOPS.net! :)

ZPDee Cable Internet rebrands as Sky Broadband
Thursday, October 09, 2008 Captain's Log Stardate -315772.1
Remember the days when cable internet was still king and DSL connections are mere slowpokes? Sky Broadband, the rebranded ZPDee Cable Internet and Now Cable Internet, is bringing those days back with their super fast cable internet plans.
Sky Broadband's maximum burstable downstream is at 12 mbps our about 1.5 Megabytes/sec. The price you ask? Well it's expensive. Damn expensive. Their 12 mbps package is priced at Php5,999 (approx. US$127+). It does include a SkyCable Gold and Sky Voice 100 subscription. But P6K per month? No thanks.
We used to pay Php2,500 per month for our Destiny Cable Internet but that was 9 years ago. The maximum downstream I had with Destiny was about 5.1mbps. Now their monthly subscription is down to P999 per month and so as our speeds. Heh.
Sky Broadband is currently offering a 15-day free trial. You can call 631-0000 and inquire if their service is available in your area. Hey Sky, wanna give me 1 month free trial? I've been with Destiny for 9 years and just imagine the impact it would have on Destiny if I switch to you :D
Sky Broadband Packages:
Plan 1mbps/512kbps = P999 Plan 2mbps/512kbps = P1999 Plan 6mbps/1mbps = P3999 (comes with SkyCable Gold and SkyVoice Plan 100) Plan 12mbps/1mbps = P5999 (comes with SkyCable Gold and SkyVoice Plan 100)

On Screen out of the Dry Docks
Sunday, October 05, 2008 Captain's Log Stardate -315761.55
On Screen, my photoblog, is back for the nth time! This time, I'll be serious in maintaining this blog since I got envious of my cousin's photos.
Kuya Pau recently bought a Nikon D40 and I was going to follow last June 2008. But upon countless reconsideration, I decided not to. There are other important things to buy than an expensive digital camera. I have several digital cameras lying around anyway (high resolution camera phones, point and shoots, camcorders). Besides, I need to save so I could slap someone with my savings. Some relative of mine recently told me, "Pumunta ka na kasi sa America, para may driver pinsan mo..."
Anyway, I've got On Screen a new domain (http://photos.jepoy.bengero.com) and also a new layout. Change your bookmarks okay?
Obviously, my last attempt to revive On Screen failed. I was trying to atleast achieve Yugatech's $800 adsense earnings but On Screen didn't even generate clicks. FAIL.
This time, adsense is no longer my driving force. I know, my camera phones and point and shoots are no match for a DSLR. But most photos are captured by passion and skills, not by expensive equipmentsTM Right? :)
So what are you waiting for? Visit On Screen and see the world as I see it within my visual range.
