My Top 10 List of the Most Influential Blogs of 2009

Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -314577.71

Today's the last day of submission for Ms. Janette Toral's Top 10 Influential Bloggers so here's my list. Better late than never.

  1. Barrio Siete - Possibly one of the fastest rising blogs today. Composed of some of the well respected bloggers out there... ehem ehem :)
  2. The Videogame Fan - GameOPS' founder finally has a personal blog! Note: Posts before May 2008 were anti-dated posts of Rocky from GameOPS.
  3. The Geekothon - Emerging tech and geek blog of my friend Mark
  4. Medyo Gwapo - The personal blog of Geekothon that looks looks better than the official MMDA website. Of course, personal bias since I made the layout :D
  5. Reality Bytes - NBA Live's top patcher, and also my friend. Note: 2 posts before May 2008 were anti-dated posts so it will not be included on the 2008 archive. This was an improvised trick due to the limitations of Blogger.
  6. Tunay na Lalake - Seven thousand hits per month? Influential it is!
  7. Putang Ina! - The title speaks for itself. An unknown blog suddenly rocks the blogosphere with its bloggers by type. Angry and Guilty blogger FTW!
  8. Good Times Manila - Still can't forget how I fall for that Jobert article. One of the best blogs out there
  9. Philippines Showbiz Rating Central - Philippine TV is ruled by the numbers!
  10. Style and Relax - Fashion and Blogging combined :~)

Absolute Traders, My Brute Cheats, Business Summaries, Fitness Advantage Club, Events and Corporate Video, Events at Work, Dominguez Marketing Communications, Red Mobile, Budget hotel in Makati, Lucio C. Tan Group of Companies, and Blog4Reviews.com

Best Mobile App EVER!

Captain's Log Stardate -314577.05

Forget Google Maps, forget Yahoo! Messenger, forget Garmin XT... because I've found the most useful and best mobile application out there! Excited?

You can use this little application to show a cracked screen image on your cell phone. It looks really realistic especially when the display backlight is turned off.

Imagine a friend's face when he sees your cracked screen or better yet after you install this application on HIS phone. He will pick up his phone and see the cracked screen. For a few seconds his heart rate will go up two times :).

Tip: press 0 to change the image and any other key to exit the application

The possibilities of this app is unbelievable! Imagine, using up your phone's resources just to display a cracked screen! Of course you can always create a simple wallpaper to emulate a cracked screen but no, CRACKED SCREEN IS BETTER!

Just launch the application and viola! You have a very useful cracked screen displayed on your mobile phone. No need to create special wallpapers!

I was inspired when I saw this app. In fact, I immediately signed up for Globe Labs so I can also create some very useful apps like the Cracked Screen. Some of the projects I have in mind are,
  1. Sheep - Just count the jumping sheeps. Perfect for insomniacs
  2. Pet Ant - watch your pet ant walk anywhere on your mobile screen. Imagine a mobile phone version of a Tamagotchi
  3. Dry Paint - An application that will emulate a fence with wet paint. You watch the paint dry in real time. Very useful if you have lots of spare time.

If you want to develop your own mobile application and earn at the same time, register now at Globe Labs.

BTW, I'm serious about those apps.

Better Check Your Maynilad Bills
Friday, July 17, 2009

Captain's Log Stardate -314539.89

I was surprised when my father told me that our Maynilad water bill this month is P1200+, which only averages P200-P250 (20-25 cubic meters) for the past several years. Even during summer, our bill has never reached P500. And since it has been raining for the past few weeks, water allocation for watering my grandma's plants and laundries has been less. Given these circumstances, our bill should have been lower compared last month

The Maynilad bill states that we had consumed 51 cubic meters of water from June 8 to July 8, 2009. That's a 100% increase from our normal monthly average! Since reading our previous bills didn't make any sense, I checked the water meter outside to see if there's something wrong.

Noticed something weird? The meter only reads 2433 m3 as of July 16, 2009 compared to the 2452 m3 "present reading" from our water bill and was probably taken around July 5-8, 2009.

Forgot basic mathematics Maynilad?

'Kada Kwento
Thursday, July 09, 2009

Captain's Log Stardate -314519.38

'Kada Kwento is the story of a barkada, the story of friendship.

A series of short films produced by Pelicola.tv Internet Television and Globe, 'Kada Kwento is a collection of stories about seven individuals that make up a barkada. In each film, we see interesting (and sometimes amusing) manifestations of friendship that each one shares with the rest.

The whole series revolves around these unique personalities. There's an optimistic yet frustrated traveler, two constantly bickering best friends, a passionate musician who introduces a soft-spoken singer to the barkada, and a slightly socially-awkward bookworm. Key among these individuals is an aspiring young writer named Luis, who also ties the whole series together. Step into his writing as the stories are told in his words.

With a scheduled release of one episode per week starting June 24, this five-episode series will only be released online - highlighting Pelicola.tv and Globe's focus on creating gourmet content for new media. Witness unique, intimate, and engaging stories accessible by a few clicks of your mouse.
This is the story of friendship. Five stories, five films, one barkada. This is 'Kada Kwento.

Longer Expiry for Mobile Prepaid Loads
Friday, July 03, 2009

Captain's Log Stardate -314501.54

After the rants of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile about his disappearing mobile load, our useless NTC has drafted new rules extending the life of mobile prepaid credits. Under the new rule that is expected to be approved today, the P10 prepaid load will have a validity period of 3 days compared to its original 24-hr validity.

"The expiration or validity of prepaid loads shall correspond to the amount of loads purchased... The higher the prepaid loads, the longer is the expiration or validity period," according to the NTC draft circular.

P10 to P20 = 7 days
over P20 to P30 = 10 days
over P30 to P40 = 14 days
over P40 to P50 = 17 days
over P50 to P60 = 20 days
over P60 to P70 = 24 days
over P70 to P80 = 21 days
over P80 to P100 = 30 days
over Pl00 to Pl50 = 45 days
over Pl50 to P200 = 60 days
over P200 to P300 = 90 days
over P300 to P600 = 150 days

The draft also states, "The validity period starts upon receipt of confirmation of the prepaid loads purchased. Call data records shall be made available to the prepaid users upon request free of charge"

Great news to all prepaid subscribers on a tight budget. Another thing, would the 2nd expiry or the SIM's validity will also be extended? If yes, for how long?
