Globe Removes P25/day DUO on Prepaid
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 Captain's Log Stardate -314991.83
Walang Metro? All You Can? Naaah... Just learned that Globe pulled the plug on their daily DUO prepaid subscription last December 16, a week before Christmas. This sucks especially for people on a tight budget. Not all can afford P125 every 5 days! The per day rate was perfect. READ: PERFECT. Then just boom! Gone. Poof!
P25 per day was a reasonable subscription for prepaid users. In my case, I only register for DUO whenever the need arises and P25/day was just perfect. Again read: PERFECT.
Now, where did I place that old PLDT Landline Plus SIM...

Is That You Pedo Bear?
Saturday, December 12, 2009 Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -314947.64
Saab Magalona posted something disturbing on her Tumblr account. It seems that some 30sh guy told people that a fake Facebook profile of her little brother is the real deal. She and her mother did a little investigation and found several of these disturbing sites:
His Plurk page filled with Arkin Magalona's picture
His YouTube channel filled with young boys
Menard discovered that his Twitter account has been deleted or renamed, probably he already knows that his "love" for little boys is spreading all over Tumblr. His Twitter account is still there, just renamed and restricted to his followers. Same goes with his Plurk and Multiply page. All of which has a new avatar,
Guilty? Maybe or maybe not. He may have restricted his accounts just to protect his privacy. Nothing wrong with admiring young kids but from what Saab posted, this guy gives me the creeps
Creepy guy if ask me, but Tim Cumper's still the creepiest of all the creeps in my list.

Telcos "Comply" with NTC Per-Pulse Charging Scheme
Captain's Log Stardate -314947.04
Last week, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered all Telcos to implement the per-pulse charging scheme as the default rates for mobile subscribers, Under the new rates, telecom firms will be allowed to charge a "flagdown" rate of P3 for the first two pulses, or a total of 12 seconds. Every succeeding pulse will then be billed. Each minute has 10 six-second pulses.
To illustrate, assuming the prevailing rate is P7.50 per minute, every pulse after the flagdown rate will cost 56 centavos. After the first minute, the per-pulse charge will increase to 75 centavos.
The resulting cost of a call per minute will still be P7.50 but calls under one minute will cost less. A 30-second call will cost P4.69. It's been one week since NTC issued that order. Did our local telcos comply? Well partly. Globe and Smart issued these statements so as to show they have "complied".
GLOBE:In compliance with NTC Memorandum Circular No. 05-07-2009 entitled Guidelines on Unit of Billing of Mobile Voice Service mandating per pulse charging beginning December 6, 2009, per second charging for Globe-Globe/TM and TM-TM/Globe is available via the dialing sequence 2329xxxxxxxxx for Globe (replace the 0 at the beginning of the Globe/TM number you are calling with 232) and 8039xxxxxxxxx for TM (replace the 0 at the beginning of the Globe/TM number you are calling with 803).
Per second rates when using the aforementioned dialing sequence as follows:
* - P0.10/second for Globe-Globe/TM and TM-TM/Globe calls Monday to Saturday * - P0.05/second for Globe-Globe/TM and TM-TM/Globe calls Sunday
Minimum maintaining balance of P7.50 required for Globe, P6.50 required for TM.
Applicable to Globe Postpaid, Globe Prepaid, Globe Tattoo Prepaid, and TM. SMART:Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) has implemented the per-pulse billing system for mobile voice calls effective December 6, 2009.
The new billing uses a six-second pulse charging system applicable to domestic SMART-to-SMART or on-net calls. It will apply to postpaid (Smart Gold and Infinity) and prepaid services (Smart Buddy and Talk ‘N Text).
A flag-down rate of P3 will be charged on the first two pulses (or 12 seconds) and P0.31 (for Talk 'N Text) and P0.43 (for Smart Buddy, Smart Gold, and Infinity) on the succeeding pulses of the first minute. For succeeding minutes, P0.55 (for Talk ’N Text) and P0.65 (for Smart Buddy, Smart Gold, and Infinity) per pulse will be charged.
To call per-pulse, the following prefixes must be used, plus the number being called:
Smart Gold and Infinity: *5433 Smart Buddy: *5434 Talk ‘N Text: *2255
Subscribers can also opt to be billed per minute, P5.50 for Talk 'N Text and P6.50 for Smart Buddy, Smart Gold, and Infinity, or to subscribe to unlimited or bucket-price service offerings.
Call types supported by the per-pulse billing scheme are call features such as call forwarding and teleconferencing. At present, rates apply to calls made within the SMART and Talk ‘N Text network only. Sneaky don't you think? :~)

New Sun Elite Series Postpaid Plans
Saturday, December 05, 2009 Captain's Log Stardate -314926.32
Sun Cellular has introduced a new set of postpaid plans that includes all of their unlimited services in one SIM.The Sun Elite Series takes you to a whole new level of Unlimited Services by offering Unlimited Sun to Sun Calls & Texts, Unlimited Internet browsing, Unlimited local landline calls, and other special inclusions such as FREE SMS to other networks, FREE IDD minutes to Sun's top 10 countries. Available plans include Plan 1500, Plan 2500, and Plan 3500. All plans include unlimited Sun to Sun Calls and Text, Unlimited mobile internet, and Unlimited Local Landline calls via SunTel with the following additions,
- Plan 1500 has 250 free SMS to other networks and 60 free minutes to Sun's top 10 IDD countries.
- Plan 2500 has 500 free SMS to other networks, 90 minutes to Sun's top 10 IDD countries, and a consumable amount of P500.
- Plan 3500 has 750 free SMS to other networks, 120 minutes to Sun's Top 10 IDD countries, and a consumable amount of P1250.
Do these plans sound cheap? I don't think so. Currently, if you get a Sun Broadband subscription together with Sun's cheapest plan, you'll pay P999. P350 for Sun's mobile plan (250 free SMS to other networks included) and P649 for Sun Broadband Wireless. For unlimited local landline calls via SunTel, just add another P249 on top of your monthly bill.
Now let's do the math. P999 (Plan 350 + SBW Plan 649) + P249 (SunTel) = P1248. That's P252 cheaper than their new Sun Elite P1500. Well, we forgot about Sun IDD, but with unlimited internet, you can always use VOIP. It's cheaper in the long run. As for me, I use MagicJack and SkypeOut.
So if what you're after are only unlimited calls, texts, internet and landline calls, I suggest you subscribe to Plan 350, get the Sun Broadband Wireless P649 plan (comes with free modem) and activate your SunTel. Your unlimited internet on Sun Elite will be useless if you're planning on using your SIM on a modem. You can't make/receive calls when your SIM is plugged into that modem right?
Or better yet, get yourself a Globe SIM and subscribe to Super DUO. :P
