Nokia's Star Trek Communicator Phone Prototype Captain's Log Supplemental Stardate -313709.83  It's still 53 years in the future before we earthlings experience first contact with Vulcans, but 14 people inside Nokia had already got their hands on a fully working Star Trek Communicator. The guys at Nokia Designs modified a Nokia N76 mobile phone to look like the 1960s version of the Star Trek Communicator. Complete with the famous "chirping" sound when flipping open the phone, Star Trek wallpapers, and an embossed Star Trek logo.   This phone is just a prototype and according to the guy who bought this on eBay, there were only 14 units made. Nokia World 2010 could have been more exciting if Nokia showed this prototype. Captain's Log Stardate -313709.73  Do any of you remember watching a Hong Kong movie in the late 1980s wherein a girl robot is the lead and doesn't know how to whistle? I remember watching it with my dad in the theaters when I was 4 or 5. I've been searching for the title of this movie since I was in high school. I have vivid memories of most of the scenes but I really cannot recall the title. Well thanks to Tonyo, I finally found the movie online. He gave me a website of superhero movies and tada! I immediately found the movie in the HK/China section XD The movie's title is I Love Maria (a.k.a. RoboForce) starring no other than the legendary director Hark Tsui and Hong Kong Pop Queen Sally Yeh. Director : Chung Chi Man YesAsia is selling a DVD version for $10.99... Survive #SentiSabado on Twitter Captain's Log Stardate -313673.72  My friend Tonyo started this #SentiSabado Twitter craze last week. The rules are simple, tweet something nostalgic (90s, 80s, 70s, etc.) and place the hashtag #SentiSabado. The end result? RIOT! Last week, we learned that Chuckie Dreyfus can literally represent #SentiSabado (hi kuya ^_^) and how ABS-CBN reporter Ryan Chua remembered how Pia Hontiveros was strapped at a flagpole at PAGASA while reporting in the middle of a storm. He was in Grade 2, while another ABS-CBN reporter, Jeff Canoy, was in Grade 5 they recalled. Tonyo's organizing another #SentiSabado this week with the theme, "Our wonder years: Flashback to elementary/grade school". Wanna join? You can use Twitter's default web interface and create a search for #sentisabado. Or you can download two of these cool desktop applications: Tweetdeck and Seesmic. Both of these applications streams updates in real time. Meaning, you don't have to hit refresh or reload everytime a new updates comes in.  Once installed, add a new search column for the hashtag #sentisabado. Tweetdeck runs on Adobe Air.  If you're a Windows user, you can try Seesmic Desktop 2 Beta. This is the one I'm using right now and it also features real time updates. Just like Tweetdeck, you can add a column for searchterm #sentisabado. Seesmic Desktop 2 Beta runs on Microsoft Silverlight and is currently available only to Windows users. Mac version coming up soon according to the developers. Download Seesmic Desktop 2 Beta here. BTW, I was in Grade 6 while Pia was strapped to that PAGASA flagpole. :P UPDATE: September 10, 2010 Tonyo asked me, "How about those people using public computers?". So, here are some alternative Twitter clients that can be used on a browser. Hootsuite and Brizzly are basically the same as Tweetdeck and Seesmic, but instead of installing an app, they both run on your browsers. Seesmic also has a Web version. You can also try Tweetchat to monitor the #sentisabado hashtag. I won't elaborate on how to use these internet apps as they are all self explanatory.
